The First Snowflake
The first snowflake found my sleeve and gently stayed,
A tiny comet from the gray that softly swayed.
It folded hush into the noisy, busy street,
And laid a quiet blanket at my feet.
I cupped its crystal heart with breath that turned to white,
And watched it lend the world a softer light.
A perfect compass spun on winter's way,
That points the old year to a newborn day.
Small as a promise, fragile as a bell's ring,
It teaches how the smallest things can bring.
A hush that lets the tired heart remember more,
How mornings keep their miracles in store.
