Italian Tiramisu
Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert that is loved worldwide for its rich and creamy texture. This delightful dish features layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a luscious mascarpone cream, dusted with cocoa powder. It is the perfect indulgence for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee (cooled)
- 24 ladyfingers
- Cocoa powder (for dusting)
Instructions
- Prepare the Cream: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy. Add the milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Whip the Cream: In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
- Combine Mixtures: Once the egg yolk mixture has cooled, fold it into the mascarpone cream until well combined.
- Layer the Tiramisu: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy. Arrange half of the soaked ladyfingers in a single layer at the bottom of a 9x13 inch dish.
- Add Cream: Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer of ladyfingers. Repeat the process with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
- Chill: Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Serve: Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder.
