Mexican Churros
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 2 ½ tablespoons white sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 quarts oil for frying
- ½ cup white sugar, or to taste
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, 2 ½ tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat. Stir in flour until it forms a smooth ball.
Step 2: Heat the Oil
Heat oil for frying in a deep fryer or deep skillet to 375°F (190°C).
Step 3: Pipe the Churros
Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe 5- to 6-inch strips of dough into the hot oil, using scissors to cut the ends. Fry until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side.
Step 4: Drain and Coat
Remove the churros from the oil and drain on paper towels. In a shallow dish, mix ½ cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll the warm churros in the mixture to coat.
Step 5: Serve Warm
Enjoy the churros fresh and warm, preferably with a side of chocolate sauce or dulce de leche for dipping.
Tips
For extra crispiness, let the dough rest for 10 minutes before frying. Ensure the oil stays at a consistent temperature to avoid soggy churros.
